The company was incorporated in January 2005, in British Columbia, Canada. Was started to fill up a niche in the woodworking industry: service with the customer in mind.

In today’s world more machinery are becoming highly specialized, some operations replacing the work of a few people becoming more efficient and productive.

More woodworking shop owners are buying this machinery to increase production. Operators have to keep up with this trend. The initial high cost is offset in a few months by the gain in productivity.

Another trend is higher and higher levels of computerization being integrated into these machines. Some are using complicated programming language while others are just using a structure with menus and sub menus.

Ovidiu Taras, the owner of the company has a University degree in mechanical engineering, with a specialty in machine building technology. For the first seven years after graduation he worked as a technical engineer/designer using computer aided design (CAD) programs. The last two were spent in the woodworking design. After changing careers, he worked for more than two years as a service technician for a company that sells woodworking machinery in British Columbia. Here he realized the potential this field has. Having to work on a daily basis with a computer he is extensively experienced with its usage. For him, the computer is a tool that if smartly used will greatly help.

Service Technician attributes:

  • Installed woodworking machinery at customer location, including: CNC machinery, edge banders, sliding table saws, sanding machinery.
  • Consulted with customers to determine the best place for their machinery, unpacking, cleaning, and assembling
  • Set up the machinery, fine tuned them if required
  • Trained operators how to operate machinery effectively
  • Serviced the machinery to maintain the required parameters including mechanical, electrical/pneumatic, or computer related (software/hardware) functions
  • Decided if the work is warranty or not
  • Provided the service coordinator with the part number if parts are needed,
  • Demonstrations/Open House
  • Trained in ASPAN, the CAD/CAM software for the CNC
  • Demonstrated a professional attitude in relation with customers and his colleagues.
Preventative maintenance programs.

Some customers will be willing to have a maintenance agreement. This is different from a warranty contract. In the warranty period, if the machinery fails to operate, the customer’s company makes the service call. The usual service company sends the service person on a ‘first-come first-serve’ basis. In the maintenance agreement, the machinery is periodically checked, adjusted, cleaned and fine tuned. Thereby reducing the downtimes and maximizing the productivity for the woodworking shop.
